AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Hilltop Senior Citizens Center continues to help provide seniors with an environment to gather and have a hot meal every day.
The senior center uses donations from the High Plains Food Bank (HPFB) to help provide daily meals for seniors.
“They really respond to the call to feed people and meet people where they are. You know originally, just Hilltop Senior Citizens, they did prepared meals, they deliver, they also deliver a ton of meals every day, and they also do meals on site” , Whitney Walker, agency relations coordinator for HPFB.
The center turned its senior recreation room into a food pantry to expand its food storage and provide meals every day Monday through Friday for nearly 15 years.
The staff was able to provide three meals for each family member that came into the food pantry with the help of HPFB.
“We’ve been places where we’re the only people that those seniors have to see period and some of them we’re the only meal they get, just support the food bank because hunger doesn’t take holidays,” said Warren . Coble, director of the Hilltop Senior Citizens Center.
Coble says life can be tough for many people and the last thing they should be worried about is providing a meal for their children and themselves.
